Stories of your life and others
Stories of your life is a second set of short stories from Ted Chiang (which also inspired the movie Arrival). Similar to Exhalations, it's a bunch of interesting vignettes that explore various concepts in-depth.
Maybe the most interesting story (aside from Story of your life, which is fantastic) was one about superintelligence. Unlike other superintelligence scenarios, this one involves a person. A man takes an experimental drug, and slowly builds more and more intelligent powers.
In the current age of AI existential-risk, I thought this story made an incredibly compelling argument about how dangerous this might be. It's far easier for me to empathize with a person who might have superintelligence vs a 'general robot', and understand how dangerous that might be.
At any rate, it's a weird and thought provoking book with plenty of great concepts.
