Running

Running

Outside of work, most of what I do these days is run.

Since 2017, I've gotten deeper and deeper into the world of training for various ultramarathons.

As I started to get into the sport, I found myself at a bit of a loss for "the right kind of gear to buy". So, here's my own experiences with gear that I've found to work. I typically race 30-50mi races, and am training for my first 100mi in Sept 2021.

If you're looking to get into the sport, I'd recommend reading Running Your First Ultra by Krissy Moehl.

What I wear

What I wear has evolved quite a bit as I began to understand what it takes to run at distance. Here's my current snapshot.

  • Hoka Speedgoat 4 trail shoes
  • Patagonia 5" strider shorts
  • Patagonia Cap Cool Lightweight Shirt
  • Patagonia Houdini Jacket
  • Injinji Midweight Crew socks
  • Boco running hat
  • Salomon ADV 12 Running Pack
  • Dirty Girl Gaiters
  • Goodr sunglasses
  • Petzl Headlamp
  • Black Diamond Carbon Z

What I eat

As I've increased my distance, I've started to desire more "real food". I'll typically start runs with savory/salty foods, and then as time goes by, switch more into the sweet foods.

  • Trail Butter
  • Clif Bloks
  • Justin's Peanut Butter Packets
  • Honey Stinger Waffles
  • Gu Packets
